Physical Therapy

School physical therapists work with school teams and parents/guardians to support students identified as having physical, developmental and learning needs.

Their primary goal is to help students function within the school setting to their full potential. School physical therapists work to support students from 5 to 21 years of age. They address a variety of issues, including:

  • physical status including gross motor skills, mobility, strength, balance, coordination, motor control, flexibility and endurance
  • environmental access, including classroom, school, work site and family homes
  • specialized equipment needs such as wheelchairs, walkers, standers, adapted bicycles and lift systems
