School Social Work

School social workers work with students, school personnel, parents/guardians, other clinical disciplines and community agencies to address student and family needs.

Their goal is to support students in maximizing their educational potential. School social workers work within a systems perspective considering home, school and community environment. They address a variety of issues, including:

  • behavioural, social and emotional issues
  • school absenteeism 
  • adolescent issues 
  • grief and loss 
  • mental health concerns 
  • gender identity 
  • family issues 
  • bullying
