PTEC moves into Smartpark Innovation Hub
It is an innovative home, for an innovative program.
What started out as a program inside Shaftesbury High School in 2018, is now a school located inside the University of Manitoba's Smartpark Innovation Hub.
PTEC, also known as Pembina Trails Early College, has officially become our 35th school.
The 75,000 square-foot four-storey building will be home to university researchers and industry innovators. In September 2019, 55 students, in grade 9 and 10, will call the new space home.
“Smartpark is the perfect fit for this one of a kind school. PTEC provides a unique approach to learning with the ultimate goal of preparing students for the jobs of tomorrow,” shared Chair of the Board, Jaime Glenat.
PTEC offers students with a passion for software development, cyber security and coding, an opportunity to graduate with not only a high school diploma, but a post-secondary certificate. Another unique student benefit, is the exposure and potential for a head start in the ever growing tech industry.
Smartpark was built with the vision of offering collaborative spaces that encourage networking. Some well known tenants include BOLD Commerce, North Forge Technology Exchange and Futurpreneur.
We look forward to welcoming students to this world-class learning space this fall.
Our Board would like to thank the University of Manitoba and the Public School Finance Board for supporting our vision.
