Institut collégial Vincent Massey Collegiate graduate gets ready for a future in the spotlight

Like her fellow class of 2020 graduates, Taylor Izon’s final year in high school did not go exactly as planned. As she prepares to graduate, one thing is certain, her future will include performing arts.

The Institut collégial Vincent Massey Collegiate student has been named a 2020 recipient of the Jean Murray-Moray Sinclair Scholarship from the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre. The award is in recognition and celebration of two Winnipeggers, who contributed to establishing the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre. Since its creation, the fund has financially assisted more than 517 Manitobans aspiring to a career in professional theatre with over 908 scholarships and apprenticeships.

"I am so thankful to have been part of the amazing Massey performing arts department.  I have had so many fun learning experiences in all three years taking each class available in musical theatre and drama,” shares Izon. “Acting comes very naturally for me, and has allowed me to express myself, that's why I want to become a teacher now.  I am so honoured to receive this scholarship and want to thank Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre and my teachers for their support."

Taylor also received Royal MTC’s BackStage Pass scholarship, awarded to drama or musical theatre students who are committed to their school stage performance program and who have a solid work ethic.

“She is one of those students that comes along once in a while. Taylor had her goals and worked toward them consistently.  Her commitment to artistic work extended to those around her, she has such a bright, positive outlook,” said teacher, Nancy Finlay.

Comments of Taylor’s kindness and dedication are echoed throughout the school.

“Teaching her has been a joy. Taylor is not a stage hog in anyway,” shares Margo Kehler, improv and drama teacher. “In fact, content with auditioning for supporting roles, she would make the most out of every scene she was in.  She never missed a rehearsal, was always prepared and worked diligently.”

Taylor has enrolled to further study theatre and film at the University of Winnipeg. Her ultimate goal is to become a drama and  musical theatre teacher.  Congratulations, Taylor. You have made us all #PembinaTrailsProud.
