Arthur A. Leach teacher gets creative during COVID-19

Morgan Arksey knows just how to tell a good story.
The savvy teacher-librarian combines his love of books and interest in technology to bring lively online stories to the student community at Arthur A. Leach.
It all began with an old favourite, The Little Prince. Filming from his basement, Arksey dresses up and virtually reads to his class. Students enjoyed it so much that he enlisted the assistance of fellow teacher, Allison Perlov to help. The duo then teamed up to present a rendition of the classic Harry Potter series.
Arksey’s technological offerings are not limited to books. He organizes on-line digital games such as Quizlet or Cahoot. He says, at times, up to fifty students have been logged on and participating at once. A few parents have even joined in on the fun.
“I am inspired by the resourcefulness of my colleagues, both local and global, in their efforts to source materials for distance learning to accommodate students during COVID-19,” he said.
The creative twist to learning at home goes much deeper than education and entertainment. Arksey’s efforts are helping maintain a strong sense of community during these challenging times.
