An important message for families living in Fairfield Park and Richmond West

École South Pointe School, the newest member of the Pembina Trails family, opened its doors on January 9, 2017. The past year has been exciting as we have seen the school and its 800 students grow and develop, and more changes may lie ahead.

During our most recent board meeting, a resolution was passed to amend South Pointe’s catchment area. The pace of population growth of the South Pointe community has exceeded growth in our other newer neighbourhoods and the new school has already reached its capacity. However, we have space at other nearby schools to accommodate the growing student population.

At our January 25, 2017 meeting, the board approved that as of the 2019-20 school year the catchment schools for French Immersion students in Fairfield Park and Richmond West will be École St. Avila and École Viscount Alexander. We will provide bus transportation to either school as per policy. École South Pointe School’s new French Immersion catchment area is now identical to the English catchment.

For 2018-19, families in Fairfield Park and Richmond West can choose to attend South Pointe, St. Avila or Viscount Alexander. We understand that some families have already made plans for next year and we hope that giving you this choice makes for a smoother transition.

These changes do not impact students currently attending South Pointe, and any siblings of current South Pointe students will be grandfathered in to attend the school.

During the months ahead, our trustees and senior administration team will be meeting with school and parent groups to share information and answer questions. Please take the time to read the official resolution.
