A Message from our Superintendent
It is with heartfelt appreciation, and on behalf of the Board of Trustees and Senior Administration, that I write this note. Your dedication to our students and their learning was evident in abundance this past week as the Pembina Trails Canada 150 events unfolded and culminated at Investors Group Field yesterday.
It took countless hours of planning and significant effort from each of you to make the elements of Canada 150 the success that it was. We followed three major curricular themes as the year unfolded, namely, diversity, reconciliation and sustainability. They were on full display at IGF yesterday; they have also been alive and well in our schools leading up to yesterday.
Our success as a Pembina Trails family yesterday was made possible only through the commitment and innovative spirit of our outstanding staff.
There were many highlights for me this week. I will identify three.
Participating in the TransCanada Trail relay run. Trustee Glenat and I had the privilege of cycling the 29 km from the west side of the division to IGF. (Thank you Geoff Brewster for making this run possible.) Chair of the Board, Julie Fisher, cycled the south path from Ryerson to IGF. IT Director, Derek Boutang, ran the entire 34 km. The student enthusiasm, whether as runners or the huge cheering sections along the trail, was inspiring. Two of the relay teams sang O Canada as they ran!
The divisional band playing O Canada! Words cannot describe the goosebumps and lump in the throat feeling. Thank you musicians (all 2200+ of you) and band teachers!
Student voices – it never ceases to amaze me how articulate, wise-beyond-their-years and courageous our students are. Whether they were at the podium, in the choir, dancing on the field or working hard behind the scenes designing and building the floats, Pembina Trails students have demonstrated over and over again that our city, province and country are in good hands.
Thank you each and every one for playing a role in this memorable event!
