Indigenous Student Success Teachers

Pembina Trails has three Indigenous Student Success teachers on staff. Their cultural programming and professional development services are available to all schools, and they ensure to balance the time they spend in each school.

In schools where Indigenous Student Success teachers provide student support, their role is to:

• assist with self-declaration
• establish relationships with students and families to promote attendance and success
• assist students and families navigate education and social systems 
• provide opportunities for Indigenous students and friends to gather, for example with identity, interest and social action groups 
• support student success in literacy and numeracy, as well as provide subject-specific support
• track the overall success of Indigenous students in each school
