Building a new school is complex and costly. These are some of the questions we wrestle with when determining whether a school should be built:

Will the location meet the educational needs of all students?
Is the Division being fiscally responsible with respect to building, staffing, and maintaining schools in ALL of Pembina Trails?
Is there suitable land? Typically, a 10 to 12 acre site is recommended for a K-8 school built for 600 students. A day care with a suitable play area and a separate pick-up and drop-off zone would be included in each K-8 school. A larger tract of land - approximately 25 acres - is required for a high school with a capacity of 1,000 students.
How many single and multiple family residences will likely be constructed in each area?
What is the ratio of school-age children per household?
Is there existing space available in schools in nearby communities such as Fort Richmond, Richmond West, Waverley Heights, Fort Garry and Whyte Ridge?
