École Dieppe Principal for a Day
Our Principal for a Day fundraiser was a great success! École Dieppe students vied for the spot of Principal for a Day, but only 3 lucky student names were drawn to take on the big job. Mason from Kindergarten, Alina from 2 Wilkins and Jacob from 3/4 Town were up for the task! After listening to their classmates’ suggestions and consulting with the office team, a day full of principal activities was planned.
In the morning our principals supervised outdoors, made morning announcements, read to a kindergarten class, counted 800 slices of cucumbers for our Spa Day, met our Winnipeg Police services school resource officer, coordinated with the lunch monitors and ordered lunch from Taverna Rodos. In the afternoon our principals opened their bag of Dieppe swag, wrote up and handed out certificates to EAs and teachers, used walkie-talkies to solve the case of a missing item and announced a “drop everything and jump” activity before recess.
Here are our principals’ thoughts on the day.
Q: What did you do during your day as Principal?
Jacob: We counted 800 cucumbers and got free lunch!
Alina: We did 10 jumping jacks and asked everyone in the school to do them, too.
Q: What was the best part of the day?
Jacob and Alina: The whole day!
Mason: Having extra jungle gym time.
Q: What was the hardest part of the day?
Jacob and Alina: Counting all of those cucumber slices.
Q: When you got home, what was the first thing that you told your family about the day?
Jacob: I got to bring a special treat to Mr. Finch, our custodian.
Alina: I had fun being outside for morning duty.
Q: Do you think that other students would like to a principal for a day?
Jacob: If you get to be principal for a day, you should be very excited!
