Truth and Reconciliation Week in Canada - September 22 to 26, 2025

Pembina Trails School Division joins all Canadians in honouring the lives of children who never returned from residential schools, as well as the survivors of residential schools, their families and their communities. This week honours the children who never returned home and the survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. It is important to acknowledge the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools. Learning the truth in age-appropriate ways and participating in reconciliation is important for everyone.

Schools will offer learning experiences and community events in different ways, from centering stories and listening to children's literature and invited guests, to heart gardens with messages of hope to survivors as a response to student learning and a symbol of love and healing. Please connect with your school to learn more.

Each year, September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. There are no classes on Tuesday, September 30.

Action toward Truth and Reconciliation is outlined in the Mamàhtawisiwin Policy Directive from Manitoba Education. Mamàhtawisiwin: The Wonder We Are Born With—An Indigenous Education Policy Framework
