Technical Vocational Education

Get a head start on your future with Pembina Trails School Division’s Technical Vocational Education (TVE) programs.

Open to Grade 11 and 12 students across the division, TVE provides experiential learning opportunities that help students explore career interests, develop industry-relevant skills, and gain valuable workplace experience while earning high school credits.

Programs

Students can choose from four specialized programs:

  • Culinary Arts
  • Machining
  • Pastry Arts
  • Welding

Facility

Located at Pembina Trails Collegiate, the purpose-built TVE facility reflects modern industry standards and is equipped with advanced, industry-grade technology. Students learn in authentic work environments while building the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed for success in post-secondary education, apprenticeships, and the workforce.

Equipment for the machining program in the Technical Vocational Education facility
Industrial stoves and ovens in the kitchen area of the Technical Vocational Education wing that will serve the culinary and pastry arts programs.
Welding mask and gloves for the Welding program.
Mixers fill the Pastry Arts area of the Technical Vocational Education wing.

How it works

Grade 11 and 12 students from all Pembina Trails high schools are able to participate in TVE programming. Students in the TVE program remain enrolled at their home high school and attend TVE during Term 2 in Grade 11, and Term 1 in Grade 12.

Why choose TVE?

  • No program fees (students are responsible for the purchase of personal safety equipment)
  • One of only two high school machining programs in Manitoba
  • The most advanced high school machining lab in Western Canada, featuring industry-grade HAAS CNC mills and lathes
  • Instruction from experienced industry professionals with backgrounds in aerospace, mining, manufacturing, hospitality, and the skilled trades

High School Apprenticeship Program

Eligible students in TVE programs can participate in the High School Apprenticeship Program (HSAP), allowing them to earn wages, apprenticeship hours, and high school credits while completing high school.
