Reports and Plans

Student-Led Conferences and Report Cards:

During the school year, Linden Meadows School students participate in two student-led conferences: one in October, and one in February. Grades 1 to 8 students receive a report card at the end of each of three terms in December, April and June. The reports for terms one and two are published on-line and for the third term, a printed copy is sent home to parents.  Passwords are shared with parents prior to the first term reporting period. Parents are encouraged to call the school should they not have their password to access the term reports.

A student-led conference is a conference with parents led by the student. The role of the classroom teacher is a facilitator in the conference process. Students lead parents through a discussion of their work and established academic and social goals. The student directs the conversation focused on their work and classroom behaviour.

Philosophy and Purpose of Student-Led Conferences:
The process of communicating the progress of students to parents involves students in a meaningful way.  For a discussion of student work to be relevant, accurate and complete, students need to be meaningfully engaged in the process. Having students lead a conference with parents is a way to maximize their involvement. The involvement of students in the conferencing process promotes responsibility, making the student more responsible for learning. What a student-led conference looks like depends upon the age of the student.

Roles and Responsibilities of Student-Led Conferences:
Successful student-led conferences require changes in the roles that teacher, student and parent have played in traditional parent conferencing. Teachers become facilitators, students become leaders and parents become active listeners and questioners.

Scheduling a Student-Led Conference:

Parents are asked to book their conference using the parent-teacher scheduler.  We encourage parents to see their child's teachers during this scheduled time for student-led conferences. One conference time is available per family.
