At Linden Meadows School, we are proud of our diverse community of learners. We welcome our growing number of newcomer students as well as host international students from all over the world!

Newcomer Family Reception:

  • Contact the International Student Program office at: 204.488.1767 Ext. 1225
  • Book an appointment to confirm your address and immigration status
  • An EAL teacher will meet with you and your student and conduct an initial interview to ensure the best academic program

English as an Additional Language (EAL) Program:

Our EAL Program provides students with a variety of language opportunities to improve their English, make new friends in many grade levels as well as participate in school events/clubs/sport teams throughout the year. First language literacy is valued in our school.

  • The EAL program at Linden Meadows School emphasizes a strong focus on relationship building with EAL students and their families.

  • Our EAL program uses  a strength-based approach to support students in each of the following domains:

  1. Linguistic (listening, speaking, reading, writing, viewing, and representing);

  2. Contextual (bridging home to school);

  3. Intercultural Understanding (celebrating culture, nurturing diversity);

  4. Language and Learning strategies (developing additional language proficiency).

  • English Language Acquisition Plans and adaptation plans to facilitate appropriate programming for our English Language Learners

  • Interpreter services can be scheduled for families who request support at tri-conferences

Interpreters:

Interpreters are scheduled for families who require support at tri-conferences when student academic progress is shared. Our website also has a button to translate the content in to many different languages.

Newcomer Nights:

Beginning in the 2017-2018 school year, we will be hosting Newcomer Evenings to welcome our Newcomer families. Interpreters will be on hand to ensure that our families have the information that they need to be informed about their child's education.
