October is AAC Awareness Month!

In Pembina Trails School Division, we’re celebrating all the amazing ways our students communicate!

AAC stands for Augmentative and Alternative Communication, and it includes everything from gestures and picture symbols to high-tech tools like iPads with special communication apps.

In our schools and communities, we believe every voice matters. That’s why Speech-Language Pathologists in our division help make communication accessible everywhere, from assisting schools to place Communication Boards on playgrounds, to ensuring symbols are available in classrooms and hallways, to providing training to school staff about communication devices and presenting to classrooms to help peers learn more about AAC.

This month (and every month!), we celebrate communication in all its forms- because everyone deserves a way to be heard.
