Celebrating Cultural Diversity in Pembina Trails
The Diversity and Belonging Committee at École South Pointe School organized a school wide event for World Day for Cultural Diversity on May 21st, 2025. This event was a culmination of the inquiry learning that Kindergarten to Grade 8 students engaged in over the last month, which began with learning about being a good Treaty person before asking “Who Am I?” and “Where Am I From?”.
Assemblies in the afternoon offered students an opportunity to showcase their talents in singing and dancing, or to teach their peers some important facts about their culture. During the fashion show organized by South Pointe’s Grade 7 and 8 student leaders, we saw beautiful traditional clothing from all over the world!
To cap off the day, families and community members were invited to join us at the school. The evening included a formal presentation from students, a snack of Bannock, and a chance to connect with each other and walk through the gallery displaying all of the learning that has resulted from our inquiry.
There were many highlights of this day, but none more important than the opportunities that students of South Pointe had to make connections, feel a sense of belonging and to see themselves represented and celebrated in their place of learning. Many thanks to the organizing committee for their impressive efforts.
