Whyte Ridge School students take story time to the screen with CBC Kids
Reading is a regular part of each school day for students at Whyte Ridge School. But it’s not every day that the students get to read for a national audience.
Four elementary students from the K-4 school recently took their love of books to the screen by lending their voices to CBC Kids Storytime, a video series that celebrates literacy, mentorship, and the joy of Canadian storytelling.
Through CBC’s partnership with Forest of Reading®, Canada’s largest recreational reading program, the students were invited to read titles shortlisted for the Blue Spruce Award™ highlighting standout Canadian children’s picture books.
In February, CBC Kids filmed students Zion and Youxin reading The Most Magnificent Team by Ashley Spires, while students Ethan and Mireille brought The Girl Who Loved Poutine by Lorna Schultz Nicholson to life. Both reading videos are available now and will reach thousands of educators and young readers across the country.
