Graduation rates

Graduation is a proud day for students, family, friends and staff. Pembina Trails shares Manitoba Education and Training’s commitment to increasing high school graduation rates, so that more and more students can experience that special day.

Manitoba Education and Training recently released the province’s high school graduation rates and we are proud that Pembina Trails has one of the highest six-year graduation rate of all metro school divisions at 88.6 per cent.

“As part of our Three Expectations for Student Learning, our Board is committed to the goal that all Pembina Trails’ students will graduate high school. We know there is still work to do, but these graduation rates show that we are moving forward in achieving our mission and preparing students for life beyond the classroom,” said Jaime Glenat, Chair of the Board.

“For us, the report is a sign that we are doing many things right, and that there remain pockets of opportunities to become even more inclusive in supporting student success,” shared Superintendent/CEO Ted Fransen.

We are always looking for ways to achieve even better student success results. Our Alternative High School was created for this very reason. The unique and flexible learning option is helping more students graduate. In fact, to date 41 students have gradated from the school.

As our division grows and diversifies, the path to graduate can naturally take more time. Many of our students (21.6 per cent) speak English as an Additional Language and many are newcomers to Canada. We recognize that learning a new language and adapting to a new life can mean that graduation is achieved later—but we are committed to helping all of our students achieve success, regardless of how long that journey may take.

All in all, our graduation rates at Pembina Trails are something we can be extremely proud of. Our students are taught that they can Accomplish Anything, and graduation is an accomplishment worthy of celebrating.
