Pacific Junction School brings a glowing forest to life

Pacific Junction School flipped the switch on creativity on April 9 and 10, transforming one of its classrooms into a glow‑in‑the‑dark forest that dazzled students, staff, and parents alike.

The immersive art exhibit featured work from every student in the K to 5 school and drew inspiration from the neighbouring Assiniboine Forest, which is already woven into the school’s learning.

Each class rooted their creations in classroom learning. Students put their math skills to work by crafting 3D‑shape fairy houses, built detailed clay mushrooms that accompanied a research project, and sharpened their artistic skills with luminous butterflies, fireflies, owl eyes, ladybugs, and other forest friends.

The idea sprouted back in February, when Grade 1/2 teachers Shawn Falconer and Meagan Epp came across similar projects online. Once they shared the concept, the rest of the staff quickly jumped on board. It’s proof that great ideas, like good forests, grow best together.

And if the glow on students’ faces is any indication, this enchanted forest will be lighting up imaginations long after the lights come back on.
