École St. Avila student’s initiative results in bronze medal at STEM fair
Good things happen when students take initiative in their learning. That’s exactly what happened when École St. Avila student Timon approached the school about representing them at the Bison Regional STEM Fair on April 8 and 9.
Timon’s project, which explored if the type and amount of rotor blades on a windmill affect how much energy it makes, won a bronze medal in the Grade 4 to 6 category. The project tested three different types of rotor blades: twisted blades, curved blades, and regular rotor blades.
The event didn't just give Timon hardware, it gave him inspiration too. He's already looking forward to growing his science knowledge and competing in more science fairs in the future.
