Music - March 2022

We have been celebrating many events in the music room this term! At the end of January we learned about Chinese New Year, singing and playing songs, dancing to share the well wishes of the season, and learning the rhythms of the Zodiac.

In February, we celebrated the Olympics in our school with rhythm games and Olympic fanfare! We had rhythm relays, rhythm races, and composed our own rhythms to celebrate the sports of the Winter Olympics. Some of our classes also created movement for John William’s Olympic Fanfare, sharing creativity and ideas with their classmates.

We also had a special guest in grade 2 in February, our Indigenous Support Teacher, Kelli Wiebe. Ms. Wiebe shared Metis music and spoon playing traditions with our grade two students. We had lots of fun trying to play different patterns on the spoons!

Our Cohort 6 Orff Club also celebrated the Olympics by playing their own Fanfare for the Orff Instruments. We spent several lunch hours rehearsing and putting the parts together. This week we recorded our performance and now we are sharing it with you! We hope you enjoy the performance!
