Math champs
Their drive and determination has paid off. Grade 1/2 students at Laidlaw recently placed first in a national Math competition called Number Rumble.
For the past eight weeks, Mr. Glenwright's class competed against 364 other schools from across Canada.
"It is a grand accomplishment to be crowned National Champions," shares Garrett Glenwright, a very proud teacher. "This class was very competitive, but also extremely dedicated and had a passion for becoming stronger math learners. The students would stay in at recess and lunch to compete, but also woke up early in the morning to get in some work before school started! I am extremely proud of these students."
The students were thrilled with the big win. Here is what a few participants had to say about the experience:
"I'm proud of myself because I finished every question. I learned a lot of math!"- Emily, grade 2
"Working in the thousands is hard, so I got the geometry done first. We get badges as we finish levels. I got my last badge on the last day of Number Rumble. My parents reward me with movies for doing my math. I've got lots of movies now!"- Ben, grade 1
"I don't really like doing homework, but Number Rumble was different. It was fun!"- Brady, grade 2
