Fort Whyte Farms

Oak Park High School has been a part of Fort Whyte Farms for the past 7 years. The program offers Indigenous youth an opportunity to build relationships with other students, volunteers and program participants. This program provides skill building in farming, cooking and hands-on educational activities for youth. Students spend time working in a commercial kitchen, assisting with livestock chores, going on hikes and visiting the tipis. The program focuses on sustainability and being mindful of the footprint we leave behind for future generations.

There are two programs at Fort Whyte Farms. One program runs in the fall for 6 weeks. The spring program runs for 17 weeks. These half day opportunities then allow students to apply for a paid summer internship, continuing the work at the farm that was developed during the spring program. Oak Park has had many students who were successful candidates for this exciting summer program.

Deanna Hill is an Oak Park student and the 2017 recipient of the summer internship at Fort Whyte Farms. Her life has been positively impacted by her time at the FortWhyte Farms. Click on the link to read her full story.

Scholarships are available for Indigenous students pursuing post-secondary education. Click on the links to get full details and/or contact Ms. Bergunder at jbergunder@pembinatrails.ca.
