In many ways, mathematics is a universal language. Its grammar and syntax is used and understood throughout the world regardless of the user’s spoken language or country of origin. Its origins and development are rooted in many cultures and are the basis for numerous other disciplines. Its applications are spread throughout our modern world into diverse and wide-ranging fields such as science, technology, communications and economics. The Mathematics department stresses and supports the key role of the understanding and use of mathematics and its concepts in other fields of study. The department also stresses the development of critically thoughtful students.
