Peer Tutoring Program

Here at École secondaire Oak Park High School, we recognize the great value a peer tutoring program brings to students. Peer tutoring provides one-on-one academic support from another student who has a solid understanding of course material and a desire to help classmates succeed.

Need a Peer Tutor?

  • To get started, please complete the online tutoring request form. The information you provide will help us connect you with a tutor whose availability and strengths match your needs.
  • Once your request is submitted, watch your Edsby messages for a notification linking you with a tutor and a suggested meeting time.
  • The peer tutoring program is student-ledand supported by Teacher Supervisors, who review all requests and help set up tutor–tutee matches. The Teacher Supervisors are:
    1. Science and Math courses: Mr. Mathewson and Mrs. McGonigal
    2. ELA and Humanities courses: Mrs. Peters

Please note: Due to the limited number of peer tutors available and their availability (especially with the math courses), matches may take some time to arrange. If a tutor is needed urgently, families are strongly encouraged to consider hiring a private tutor to ensure timely support. Additionally, if a student requires significant reteaching of previously learned outcomes, a peer tutor may not be the best option. In such cases, hiring a private tutor would provide more consistent and structured support.

Interested in Becoming a Peer Tutor?

  • Peer tutors must be students in grades 10, 11, and 12 who have achieved strong academic results in a specific subject, maintain a positive attitude toward learning, and are eager to support their peers.
  • Tutors should be both caring and patient, in addition to being academically capable.
  • The tutor’s role is to guide the student in developing independent skills, not to complete the work for them.
  • Applicants will be screened for suitability and paired with students in subjects where their strengths align.
  • All tutoring sessions will take place in school, face-to-face, at mutually agreed-upon times.
  • Application forms are available online or as paper copies in the Science Department office and the library.
