Host an Argentinean in 2017!

Gauchos, tango, chimichurri…oh my!

Dear parents/guardians,

I am excited to share that in October 2017, École Secondaire Oak Park High School will be hosting 16 students and 2 teachers from Argentina's San Carlos School in Buenos Aires. We are now actively looking for host families who have a student registered at Oak Park for the 2017-2018 school year. This is a tremendous opportunity for students to learn about culture and diversity, to share their Canadian pride, and to establish new friendships. It is also a fantastic way to experience what the hosting part of an exchange program has to offer.

Over the last 10 years, we have hosted many students from this school and have even sent Oak Park students there as well. For the 2017-2018 school year, Oak Park students who host one of our guests will be able to apply for some funding towards an independent study abroad experience at San Carlos School, which will take place in March of 2018.

There is very minimal commitment involved on your part! You simply need to welcome them as a guest in your home, as you would a visiting family member or friend.

Host families will:

• welcome guest at airport on Sunday, October 1, 2017.
• transport guest to the airport on Saturday, October 14, 2017.
• provide guest with daily meals (including a bag lunch).
• provide adequate accommodations and access to facilities.
• provide guest with a private bedroom with a window.
• ensure that guest has a means of getting to and from school.
• ensure that guest has a means of getting to and from after school activities.
• include guest in family activities every day and on the weekend.
• share Thanksgiving with the guests as it is an unknown celebration for them.

Host students will:

• take part in a welcome celebration for our guests.
• take part in a farewell celebration for our guests.
• accompany guests to and from school each day.
• welcome our guests in their classes at Oak Park for 3 ½ days.
• introduce our guests to other Oak Park students.
• have the opportunity to attend an excursion with Argentinean group (with permission).
• share their family life and free time activities with guests.

Guests will:

• arrive on Sunday, October 1, 2017.
• depart on Saturday, October 14, 2017.
• accompany Oak Park students to school each day.
• return home with their host students at the end of the day.
• attend 3 ½ days of school at Oak Park with their host students.
• attend day excursions with their school group.
• attend evening excursions with their school group.
