Oak Park Celebrates Canada 150
The Pembina Trails Canada 150 event on May 24 at Investors Group Field was one of the biggest school-based Canada 150 events in the country. Each school in Pembina Trails built a float to celebrate Canada. Oak Park's theme: "CANADA: A BEACON OF HOPE"
Our float is a representation of our values of cultural diversity and inclusivity. École secondaire Oak Park High School chose to focus specifically on the aspect of welcoming immigrants continuing to come to our shores. This lighthouse serves as a metaphor, a beacon of hope welcoming the world. The boat is filled with crayons representing people of all colours heading to Canada.
We were inspired by our former Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Elliot Trudeau's words:
"The Just Society will be a united Canada, united because all of its citizens will be actively involved in the development of a country where equality of opportunity is ensured and individuals are permitted to fulfill themselves in the fashion they judge best."
