“The Life cycle of a chicken" at Bairdmore School
This June, students in Grade two at Bairdmore School excitedly engaged with Farmer Todd and his special guest chickens and duck to kick off their unit of “The Life cycle of a chicken.” This rich, real-world experience brought forth curiosity, joy, questions, and a lot of smiles.
During the course of four weeks, our school library is transformed into the home of 7 chicken eggs incubating for 21 days as students experience the journey from egg to chick. The month will include hands-on, cross curricular learning, combining science, math, and writing. Through observation including egg-candling, and eventually the hatch of newborn baby chicks, students are engaged while learning about the concepts of growth, change, empathy, and the circle of life.
Thanks to our friends at Morning Sound Farm who helped make this experience possible.
