Dalhousie's Shayla Refvik and Bairdmore's Julia Martin awarded prestigious Certificate of Merit

Pembina Trails congratulates Dalhousie’s Shayla Refvik and Bairdmore’s Julia Martin, who were recently awarded a Certificate of Merit from the Reading Council of Greater Winnipeg on May 29th.  

This certificate recognizes educators who have made outstanding achievements in the areas of classroom teaching, teacher education, or research.  

Shayla and Julia were nominated for their ability to teach foundational literacy skills in systematic, structured and engaging ways, her desire to meet the wide variety of needs in her classroom, and her ability to employ a variety of tools and strategies such as whole group and small group lessons, literacy games, engaging writing prompts, read alouds, mentor texts, and many moments of modelling strategies for reading and writing.
