Christmas Cheer Board Hampers

A "gros merci" goes out to every member of the École Dieppe community. Together, we were able to fill and deliver 13 Christmas Cheer Board hampers. These hampers went out to families in need and were full of items meant to help make the holiday season a cheerful one. Each hamper had well over the minimum food required, as well as wrapped gifts for the family and a handwritten card. The students in Mme Chandler’s 3/4 class, as well as Mme Chandler and M. Luc, were phenomenal helpers during this fundraising campaign.

Students in the class completed the following tasks,

-sold candy canes to help raise money

-collected food items

-collected toy and money donations

-sorted and organized food

-filled boxes with pre-set food lists

-selected toys for the children in the families

-wrapped presents and wrote cards

-shopped for additional items at the grocery store

-calculated and estimated grocery costs

Students practiced problem solving skills, critical and creative thinking, group work, negotiation, understanding and empathy. Discussions in class centered around how they could help, even in a small way, to make this holiday season a little brighter for a family in need. Students then made important decisions when filling the hamper for their assigned family. From what type of soup to put in the hamper, to the best toy for the age of the child, to which items would be a better deal when they purchase it from the grocery store, thought was put into each decision that they made for the families.

A special thank you to all the adults that made this fundraiser possible. These projects rely heavily on community and school support. Whether its donations to fill the hampers, helpers to wrap and sort items, parents to facilitate a field trip to the grocery store, or community members to deliver hampers to families, we are grateful for the support.
