Timetable Information & Changes
Your timetable has been carefully designed on our new model of teaching and learning. This is based on the latest educational research where we are building upon your global competencies and bringing deep learning to each space that you experience. Deep learning developed by Michael Fullan creates opportunities so that all learners contribute to the common good, address global challenges and flourish in a complex world.
At PTC:
- We will hold high expectations for all students.
- Student voice matters.
- We will honour diversity, equity and inclusion.
- We know that high school students have had formative experiences that are beginning to shape who they are becoming, and the adolescent brain is under construction till the age of 25. Students are wired to connect with others and contribute to society, we will create pathways for this to happen and guide you on this complex journey.
To embrace this deep learning model we have created a framework that brings this model to life. This means that you will see some differences in your timetable from a regular high school timetable. These are but not limited to:
- An interdisciplinary approach to core subject areas.
- Some courses will be offered all year in a shorter period or over multiple periods for the interdisciplinary courses.
- Some courses will be offered using a semesterized approach.
- Each day starts with Ambassador Think Time (ATT) for grades 9-10.This is a PTC course that all students take and will receive a grade appropriate career development credit each year. This time will be used to teach and learn the skills that are taught through the deep learning model. An example of this is the six global competencies (citizenship, collaboration, communication, creativity, critical thinking and connection to self), as well as deliver the career development essential outcomes.
- We have developed many pathways for students to explore their passions and interests. We have tried to accommodate as many of these option courses for you as possible. Remember having a spare is not a bad idea to enable you to bring balance and wellness to your daily schedule. PTC will have many learning spaces for you to study and learn outside of the regular scheduled courses.
Please refer to our website for our student handbook by clicking on “what we offer” and then “student handbook”. This describes all of our programs, pathways and courses.
Based on this information please know that changes to timetables can only be made for the following reasons:
- Courses are missing that will directly impact graduation.
- Those who would like to drop a course and/or fill this slot with something available.
- Those who would like to fill a spare with an available course.
Timetable changes will NOT be made to accommodate teacher requests or to be in classes with friends. If one of the above situations applies and you would like to discuss this change with a student support teacher based on the schedule below, please fill in the form below or by clicking here and bring the signed copy to your student support teacher.
Timetable Updates
We have not provided paper copies of timetables, we are committed to sustainable practices. You will see your timetable mid-August when our new data is rolled over for the upcoming year in Edsby. We will not make timetable changes to be with peers or to be with certain teachers. We cannot facilitate these wishes, being in high school allows you to build new relationships with teachers and with new peers preparing you for life after high school. There will be ONE appointment allowed per student to a maximum of 20 minutes. With approx. 1600 students next year, we cannot facilitate more than one appointment. You will Edsby message your student support teacher (advisor) and they will provide you with an appointment. There is no flexibility with the date and time of this appointment.
Please know students in grade 9 and 10 should expect 8 credits, we try to facilitate 9 credits, but please know it is normal to have a spare and a lunch period in 4, 5 or 6. Students may finish at 2:55pm. All students must leave the building at the end of their last period. They can return for their practices, games or other extra curricular activities 15 minutes prior to its start time. This is due to the size of our school and we wanted to be able to offer as many different pathways as possible.
Grade 9 students your family will receive an email with the name of your student support teacher (advisor). During September 1-4 if you require a conversation about your timetable you need to Edsby message your advisor. They will then give you a date and time to come in for one 20 minute appointment.
Grade 10 students during September 9-18 if you require a conversation about your timetable you need to Edsby message your advisor. They will then give you a date and time to come in for one 20 minute appointment.
Grade 11 students during September 9-18 if you require a conversation about your timetable you need to Edsby message your advisor. They will then give you a date and time to come in for one 20 minute appointment.
Grade 12 students during September 1-4 if you require a conversation about your timetable you need to Edsby message your advisor. They will then give you a date and time to come in for one 20 minute appointment.
*Any students that could not make it in during September 1-4 can make an appointment between September 3-12 but priority will be given to the grades as listed above.
Please remember one appointment only.
