Canadian Association of Principals (CAP) Student Leadership Award goes to Absar Muhammad!

Congratulations To Absar who was the successful candidate of the Canadian Association of Principals (CAP) Student Leadership Award, which included a $500 scholarship. Absar and his family attended the CAP AGM on Saturday, April 11 along with his family to receive the award. This was in acknowledgment of his leadership at Pembina Trails Collegiate.

Absar responded with a beautiful speech:

I have not always been like this. As much as I have accomplished, I have failed far more times, which is why I am here right now. I believe the best type of leaders are those who lead by example. I try my best to influence those around me to do the right thing and become better versions of themselves. I have led a few different groups and organizations at my school. I am the founder and president of the Muslim Student Association, captain of the rugby team, and the coach for Special Olympics. Outside of school, I volunteer with Islamic Relief Canada, Manitoba Islamic Association , and several other types of groups. Out of all my activities and curricular’s my favourite one has been Special Olympics. For those who aren’t familiar with Special Olympics, it is an organization that helps students with special needs participate in sports and feel a sense of belonging. This helped me become a better person and be grateful for all I have been blessed with. I want to thank all of PTC, the staff, and the students for their support. I want to say a special thanks to my mentors. Ms. Kroeker who has supported me and guided me throughout all my high school life. She is truly the best principal I could have ever asked for. Thank you to Mr. Clark who supported me in all my extra circulars. He coached me in rugby, made me into a top national player, and taught me what it means to be a leader. Fun fact, he was my first teacher when I came to Winnipeg. Thank you to Ms. Schmidt who showed me what it means to be a kind human being and how to treat others. She is the leader of Special Olympics in our school and has given me countless opportunities. Finally, I want to thank both my parents who have done nothing but love and support me since April 24, 2008, plus an extra nine months. Thank you all, I couldn’t have done it without you!
