Grade 5 Music

Grade 6 Concert Band (Beginning Band)

* No previous musical training required *

Grade 6 Concert Band is an introductory course that provides students an opportunity to learn the basics of individual and ensemble performance on one of the following wind instruments: flute, clarinet, bass clarinet, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, or tuba.  

Students and their parent(s)/guardian(s) will have the opportunity to meet with the band director prior to the start of the school year to determine a suitable instrument. 

Yearly highlights have included First Note Night, the Winter Band Concert, the Level 1 Band Festival (Winnipeg), our annual Camp Arnes Band Workshop, and the Spring Band Concert. 

Grade 7 Concert Band

* Prerequisite: Grade 6 Concert Band OR a plan made in consultation with the Band Director that will provide an opportunity for the student in question to catch-up to their peers – in most cases, this involves a combination of private lessons and practicing over the summer months. *  

Grade 7 Concert Band is a continuation of Grade 6 Concert Band and provides students an opportunity to further their studies in instrumental music. Particular attention will be given to maturing both individual and ensemble tone quality, intonation, sight reading and developing concepts of musical phrasing. 

Yearly highlights have included the Winter Band Concert, the Level 1 Band Festival (Winnipeg), our annual Camp Arnes Band Workshop, and the Spring Band Concert.

Grade 8 Concert Band

* Prerequisite: Grade 7 Concert Band *

Grade 8 Concert Band is a continuation of Grade 7 Concert Band and provides students an opportunity to take their individual and ensemble skills to the next level. Students will be afforded increased performance opportunities, will be exposed to more challenging repertoire, and will achieve an even higher level of musical performance and understanding. 

Yearly highlights have included the Winter Band Concert, the 107 FM Band Festival (Winnipeg), the Cantando Band Festival (Edmonton), and the Spring Band Concert.
