Snowflakes Study with Ms. Roy and Ms. Nisby (Grade 2/3)
Grade 2/3 Ms. Roy and Grade 2 Ms. Nisby welcomed back our students with a January snow study! We have discovered a wonderful scientist and photographer, Wilson Bentley, who dedicated his life to photographing snowflakes. We read the Caldecott award winning story, “Snowflake Bentley” and discovered many interesting facts!
1. No two snowflakes are the same.
2. Snowflakes are hexagonal and symmetrical.
We took black pieces of construction paper outside on a snowy recess to carefully examine snowflakes. We have also started an art project where we will draw our own snowflakes in careful detail and then use watercolour and saran wrap to create a frosty snowflake scene. We look forward to sharing our finished artwork with our peers and families. Thank you for reading and have a lovely, snow-filled January. Don’t forget to stop and appreciate the snowflakes!
