University of Manitoba's Indigenous science program, Wawatay
The application deadline for the Wawatay program is Monday May 16, 2022 (4 PM CT). Any students interested in the program are encouraged to apply before the deadline.
Also, important to note that successful applicants to the program will receive a $7 000.00 stipend following their completion of the orientation session in August. Orientation will run from July 5th to August 12th, and on-campus accommodations and meals are provided by the University.
All applicants for the Wawatay program must also meet the requirements to enter University 1. To ensure course selection, we recommend submitting applications for University 1 early, but you must apply by June 30, 2022. Acceptance into the Wawatay Program does not guarantee acceptance into university.
Besides an interest in science, those interested in becoming a Wawatay Scholar must meet a few other requirements:
- Be of Canadian Indigenous Ancestry (Status, Non-Status, Inuit or Metis).
- Qualify for entry into University 1. This means graduating from a Manitoba high with five full credits at the Grade 12 level in courses designated S, G, or U. A 70% average needs to be maintained over the following four courses, and no less than 60% in each one:
- English 40s;
- Math 40S;
- Two academic 40S courses.
For a full list of requirements as well as application forms, please see the How to Apply section on the Wawatay website.
