Starting the Year as Prairie Sunrise School

The beginning of this school year is a bit extra special for the students and staff at Prairie Sunrise School, as it is the first September under the school's new name.

The past year has been one of change at Prairie Sunrise. The school's new name is the product of many months of pushing for change by students, staff, and community members regarding the school's previous name, Ryerson, and its namesake, Egerton Ryerson, who played a central role in the establishment of Canada's residential school system.

Throughout the last year, the school has been replacing its old name with the new one. Wall decals, stationery, clothing apparel, and the gym floor all now display the Prairie Sunrise name. Perhaps one of the most significant moments of change though, has been the installation of the new sign on the outside of the building over the summer. With this, the transformation is complete.

When students pass by the sign on September 7, they can proudly celebrate their "first first day of school" at Prairie Sunrise.
