Preparing our school buildings for warm weather
Summer temperatures are finally here, and as the temperatures rise outside, so can the temperatures in our schools. Our facilities teams work hard at this time of year to keep school buildings cool for students, and staff play an important role in ensuring students get cool down and hydration breaks when needed.
Read below for the measures our schools take to ensure students stay cool and healthy in warmer weather.

Pembina Trails School Division has 36 school sites ranging in age from 1 year old to 98 years old. As temperatures rise, we continue to do the following to keep our students cool while in school.
• Running the ventilation systems early in the morning to cool school buildings • Controlling outside air intake during the school day • Schools with access to A/C in specific areas will cycle students through the space to cool down • Reviewing health symptoms related to heat • Closing shades to block intense sunlight • Taking cool-down breaks between lessons • Avoiding excess movement during the hottest part of the day • Switching off unused electronics that produce heat even in standby mode • Encouraging students and staff to stay hydrated | ![]() |
