Grade 10 Science

At the grade 10 level, all students must complete a Science 20 level credit. Fort Richmond Collegiate offers three options to obtain this credit. All three options cover the Manitoba curriculum outcomes. Students must choose one of the following courses:

Science 20F:  introduces students to basic scientific principles in biology, chemistry, physics and weather.  This course provides an excellent basis for future science programs.  The biology component emphasizes ecological relationships and environmental impacts. The chemistry unit focuses on chemical reactions, and gives an introduction to acids and bases. The physics component focuses on motion and forces. And finally, students develop an understanding of the relationships that control weather and climate. This course is a prerequisite for S level courses in physics and chemistry.

Science 20FH (Honours): The Science 20FH Honours course addresses the same topics and outcomes of the Science 20F course, with an accelerated and more rigorous approach.  Extensions of each of the four units are explored, and students are expected to develop research skills and lab techniques beyond the 20F level.  All students complete a science fair project to participate in a science fair at the school. This challenging course provides a springboard into the AP program.  This course is designed for highly motivated students with a strong standing in Grade 9 Math and Science.

 Science 20E: EAL students are provided learning activities that parallel the Science 20F course. However, the materials and instructional methods used are specifically designed for students whose first language is not English.

Grade 11  Science

Grade  11 students can choose  a   science  course  as  one  of   their  options.  They   have  a  choice   of  Biology and/or Chemistry and/or Physics as well as Topics in Science 30S/40S.

Grade  12   Science 

At  the  Grade   12  level,  students may choose  to   study  biology and/or  chemistry and/or  physics.
