Air quality and ventilation in Pembina Trails
The safety of our students and staff has always been a top priority in Pembina Trails. Confronted by the challenges of COVID-19 we set out a number of safety measures to ensure students, staff, parents and visitors walking into our schools are in a safe and well-ventilated environment.
The HVAC equipment in Pembina Trails is checked monthly with filters assessed and replaced as needed with each inspection. Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems are programmed and equipment set to operate with as much fresh air as possible without detriment to the system or occupant comfort and without complete disregard for energy efficiency.
Added enhancements include: $162,750.00 in Climate Action Incentive Fund (CAIF), the federal carbon tax initiative, as well as over $100,350.00 in divisionally funded DDC upgrades and improvements with another $25,000 or more per year in further controls improvements over 10 years. The province has funded boiler/HVAC upgrades at three (3) schools (Beaverlodge, Ecole Charleswood School and Ralph Maybank) this summer and Pembina Trails has continued with annual planned HVAC equipment replacements at Ecole Bonnycastle.
Additionally, our Window and Door budget allocated $150,000 toward new opening windows to be added at Oak Park, Linden Meadows, River West Park, AA Leach, Dieppe, Acadia.
Vincent Massey and Ecole Bonnycastle School were also recipients of CAIF – which included $195,000 in new windows.
Pembina Trails is proud of our overall safety procedures. We take particular pride in the safety measures we put into place to confront the pandemic. Families in our communities can take comfort in knowing we are providing the freshest air possible and are constantly monitoring our well-functioning ventilation systems.
