BAC Community Report

The 'parent council' at Bairdmore School is called the Bairdmore Advisory Council ("BAC").  You can find out more about us under the Community Tab on the school's website.  This year, the members of the BAC were:

• Isuru Seneviratne, Secretary
• Buddhika Thenuwara, Lunch Supervision Program
• Lindsay Stasiuk, Communications
• Kristy Durston, Member-at-large
• Shrimal Koruwage, Member-at-large
• Winnie Liu, Member-at-large  

Our focus this year was on staff appreciation.  We sponsored several staff lunches over the course of the year.  We also provided the usual budget for additional classroom supplies.  This year, the school chose to pool those funds and purchase document cameras, which assisted with online learning.  We also provided the usual budget for recess equipment.  The school used our outdoor maintenance budget to purchase several planters to beautify the school grounds, which you can now see outside the school.

Given the impact of COVID, we decided to keep fundraising to a minimum this year.  We focused on gift card fundraisers that didn't leave families out-of-pocket.  Thank you to Kristy Durston and Luming Wang for organizing our recent Lacoste fundraiser.  And thank you to everyone in the Bairdmore community for making our fundraisers successful!

As usual, we are also helping to organize the babysitting course for Grade 6 students (June 18th) and the Grade 6 Farewell (June 28th).  Thanks to Isuru Seneviratne, Tom Shoesmith and Charanya Mahadevan for serving as our Grade 6 Farewell organizing committee.  

Thank you to Karen Brawdy and Jane Rowland for regularly attending our meetings on behalf of the school administration.  This year we met every second month, holding informal online community gatherings in the alternate months.  Our next community gathering will be at 6:30pm on Tuesday, June 15th.  If you'd like to join us on Zoom, please contact us at bairdmorebac@gmail.com.  

Thank you to the school office staff (Heather, Kathy & Marcia) for supporting our work by sending out reminder emails, collecting forms and helping to distribute gift cards.
