Weekly Message April 24th

Bairdmore School Weekly Message

GO JETS GO!!

We are excited to cheer on our Winnipeg Jets in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Students are encouraged to wear WHITE for all Jets Home game days and to wear BLUE for all away games.

Zones of Regulation continues to be a school-wide focus as we engage in learning around emotional regulation. We want all students to know how to move into the green zone so they are ready for classroom learning.  Students and teachers are exploring Big Problems-Medium Problems-Little Problems (Rock, Pebble, and Sand Problems).  We are working on matching the problem to the size of the reaction.  We are also working to understand how others may see the same problem.

BAC Meeting on May 26:  Please save the date and join the Bairdmore School Advisory Council for the last meeting of the school year. All are welcome to join Monday May 26, in person at Bairdmore School at 5:30PM.  The meeting will be hosted by Ms. Van Benthem in grade one.

Gr. 4-5 Marathon Club will be starting for Gr. 4-5 students at the end of April.  The first one is on Wednesday, April 30th. There are a total of 10 runs that will be offered for Marathon Club participants over the lunch hour in May and June. Please check the website calendar for Marathon Club dates.

Grade 3-5 Choir continues to meet on Day 3's at 11:10. A reminder that students should come to every choir rehearsal. We will continue to meet to prepare for our music celebration assembly on May 28.

*3 grade two classes 3 grade three classes

At this time our staffing and the teachers of each class have not yet been confirmed.

 Class Placement Process
Teachers at Bairdmore School strive to provide the best learning environment and most responsive programming to meet the diverse needs of our students.  Teachers determine class placement thoughtfully and carefully by considering the best interests of each student. Our goal is to create balanced classes that maximize student learning.
Creating classes is a complex process that begins with the classroom teacher asking students to share learning partner preferences. We try to ensure that each student has at least one person from their learning partner list in next year’s class. We work in grade level teams with input from student services team members and our clinical team as well as our specialist teachers to create balanced classrooms. We consider learning partners, learning strengths and areas of challenge, social emotional strengths and areas of challenge, student regulation and engagement in learning, student specific planning and supports and many other factors.
It is important to understand that given the complexity of the process above, parent requests can be challenging to honour as we create our classes.

We thank you for the trust you place in our teachers and the knowledge we use in placing students in next year’s classrooms. Students will have the opportunity to gather in next year's groupings and in many cases meet their next year's teachers on June 26 during our Bump Up Day activity.
