ST. AVILA’S PARENT COUNCIL – SAHASA

The St. Avila Home and School Association (SAHASA), also called a “parent council,” is a group of parents/caregivers from the school that plans events and initiatives to care for the school, students and staff, to build school spirit, and to enhance the students' learning environment. We also provide feedback to the school and on occasion engage in advocacy on behalf of the school community. For more information about SAHASA, download our Constitution.

École St. Avila’s Parent Council: What does “SAHASA?” do?

• Organizes fun events and activities for École St. Avila’s students such as movie nights, pizza lunch days, school-wide pancake breakfast, end-of-year picnic, etc.
• Gifts a free T-shirt to all students and staff at the school to build school spirit.
• Hosts a staff appreciation event in the spring.
• Provides feedback to the school admin team.
• Assists with school yard maintenance.
• Fundraises to cover play structure repairs and replacements (these are not covered by the school or school division.)

St. Avila Parent Council Monthly Meetings

• SAHASA holds meetings on the third Tuesday of most months between 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. Please note that childcare is provided in the Kindergarten Room. Come at 6pm for an informal get-to-know-you time!
• At the meeting, we plan and report on SAHASA’s events and activities. The Principal and Vice-Principal also share updates.
• ALL St. Avila parents / caregivers are welcome to attend meetings.

SAHASA Fundraisers

The parent council runs fundraisers to raise money to pay for extra activities, events, and T-shirts.

The events SAHASA plans are open to all students, regardless of whether they participate in any fundraisers.

Parent Volunteers

St. Avila’s parent council is made up of parent volunteers who organize the council’s activities and events.

You do not need to attend parent council meetings to volunteer – just watch for the “Sign-ups” throughout the school year. We would love to have your help!

Volunteering is a great way for parents to get to the know the school and community better!
