Standard of Behaviour

The Standard of Behaviour is a teaching model rather than a mandate for behaviour. The emphasis is on teaching rather than telling, nurturing rather than sanctioning and including rather than excluding.

Developed by a broad cross-section of the community, the objective of our Standard of Behaviour is to ensure to the fullest extent possible, the provision of a “safe and caring community” for all involved with the Pembina Trails School Division.

Emotional, mental and physical safety are fundamental for the provision of safe, caring and inclusive school communities, and refer to a classroom or school environment in which students can experience a sense of value, belonging, acceptance, respect and dignity for diversity of all members of learning communities, including students and staff, along with their families.

We encourage families to review the Standard of Behaviour prior to the start of the school year and to review Policy JIC.

Implementation of New Vaping Guidelines and Standard of Behaviour – 2025–26 School Year

As part of our continued efforts to support student health and well-being, Shaftesbury High School will be implementing updated vaping guidelines starting in the 2025–26 school year. These guidelines have been developed in alignment with divisional policy and provincial legislation, with the goal of creating a safe, respectful, and distraction-free learning environment for all. Students and families are encouraged to review the full details of these expectations, which will be a part of our summer mailout. This serves as fair notice to all members of our school community: any violations of the new vaping guidelines will result in clear, consistent consequences. By sharing this information in advance, we aim to ensure transparency and offer families time to discuss these expectations at home.
