Mr. Smith Retires in June

Pembina Trails Alternative High School announces the retirement of Ian Smith.

Ian has been an educator in the division for 22 years and was part of the original staff that launched the Pembina Trails Alternative High School in September of 2016.

Ian has virtually a clairvoyant ability to assess student needs. His capacity to encourage students to explore their roots, build identity, discover passions and purpose and explore personal, educational and vocational goals is legendary! Ian is unflagging in his efforts to make the classroom and school setting a safe, inclusive and inspirational place to be. His belief in human capacity for good, fuels his indefatigable advocacy for students. The ultimate testament to Ian's work are the hundreds of students who have been heartened, invigorated, restored and inspired by their connections with him.

While his departure will leave a significant vacuum, it will be filled by the many like-minded staff members who have been inspired by his work. As Ian departs from the PTAHS, his legacy of proactive, compassionate advocacy will forever help carry the school into the future. We wish you a fruitful, fascinating and fulfilling new season in your life as you step into retirement!
