Louis Riel Day - Schools Closed
A reminder 📅 to our Pembina Trails community and families: Our schools and administration offices are closed on Monday, February 16th, in honour of Louis Riel Day. Learning continues Tuesday, February 17th.
Louis Riel was a Métis leader who fought for the rights and sovereignty of Métis citizens, and is most well-known for the role he played in the establishment of Manitoba to the Dominion of Canada in 1870. The positive impact from his actions are still felt by the community today. In 2023, the provincial government officially acknowledged Louis Riel as the first Premier of Manitoba, further affirming his legacy.
"We must cherish our inheritance. We must preserve our nationality for the youth of our future. The story should be written down to pass on." - Louis Riel
