École Crane School Grounds Transformation Committee

The École Crane School Grounds Transformation Committee (SGTC) is an adjunct committee of the Parent Advisory Council (PAC) committed to working with students, teachers, and local experts on various initiatives to foster outdoor learning and play. The SGTC follows a student-led design approach where students take part in all aspects of designing their school grounds: planning, conceptual design, detailed design, implementation, and caring for the spaces once they are built/planted. Notable student-led projects in the school yard over the past few years include a pollinator garden, medicine garden, forest picnic area, and gathering area.

In addition to these main projects, the SGTC also:

  • organizes the spring and fall school ground clean-up
  • supports the school composting and vermiculture program
  • coordinates spring/summer/fall watering and garden care
  • manages fundraisers such as a plant sale in the spring and a vegetable sale in the fall
  • submits applications for grants and other public funds
  • supports staff initiatives as needed such as student gardening, school murals, student design workshops, and providing outdoor play equipment

The SGTC meets on the 3rd Monday of each month during the school year, before the monthly PAC meetings. New members are always welcome!
