École Crane to start school on September 14

Water damage from last weekend's severe storm has impacted Grade 2, 3, and 4 classrooms. The daycare, Kindergarten, and Grade 1 rooms, along with the gym and main office, did not sustain any water damage and out of an abundance of caution, have received air quality tests to ensure the spaces are safe to use.

As such, school will begin on Monday, September 14 for all École Crane students at the regularly scheduled start time. This includes students in Kindergarten, as there will be no staggered entry. All students are also expected to bring their school supplies with them on this first day.

The following outlines the plan for students in each grade for the start of the year:

Kindergarten, and Grade 1 students

Kindergarten and Grade 1 rooms are safe to use, and students in these grades will be able to return to school at École Crane and operate under their usual schedule.

Grades 2, 3, and 4 students

With Grades 2, 3, and 4 classrooms under repair, these students will have their classes hosted at other schools in the division:

  • Grade 2 and 2-3 split classes will be transported to École Van Walleghem School
  • Grade 3 and 4 classes will be transported to École Tuxedo Park

These schools had spare classrooms that were available, so students will continue to be taught by their assigned École Crane teacher in a classroom designated for them.

Transportation

Students in Grades 2, 3, and 4 will arrive at École Crane at the school’s normal start time via their regular transportation methods. These students will meet in the gym as a marshalling area before being shuttled to their respective temporary schools for the day. All students will be shuttled back to École Crane at the end of the day and will take their regular transportation methods home.

  • Morning shuttle departure time: 9:15 a.m.
  • Afternoon shuttle arrival time: 3:45 p.m.
  • Students at École Tuxedo Park will depart from that school at 3:15 p.m.
  • Students at École Van Walleghem School will depart from that school at 3:30 p.m.

Nutrition program

Nutrition programs for Grades 2, 3, and 4 students will be provided at their temporary schools.

Daycare and before and after-school program

The daycare space at École Crane is safe to use and will remain operational during this time, meaning the before and after-school program will continue to operate.

Office

The École Crane office will continue to operate from the school. Please continue to send all inquiries and communications to them, regardless of which school your student may be at.

This plan will be in place until the Grades 2, 3, and 4 classrooms are ready to welcome back students. We expect this to take a minimum of four weeks, and we will provide an update as soon as we are able.
