RECYCLING CLUB

Our recycling club has been hard at work. We have implemented Recycling bins in the Apple Green Hallways for all Grade 5 and 6 students.

We created visual posters to be put on the bins to ensure that we are recycling “PAPER ONLY”. Members of the recycling club went to each classroom to discuss the importance of recycling paper and what NOT to recycle. We are currently emptying the bins 1-2 times per week.

LUNCH DRAWING CLUB

On Tuesdays and Thursdays at lunch, students in Grades 1-3 have the opportunity to participate in Drawing Club. First we eat together and have a chance to connect with students in other classes. We then spend the lunch hour learning how to draw.

This has been a great opportunity for students who would like an alternative and quieter space during lunch times.

It’s fun to build community and make new friends while learning something new!

KEEP CALM AND COLOUR ON CLUB (GR. 5/6)

Grade 5 and 6 students participated in the Keep Calm and Colour On club in the months of October, November, and December. They coloured bookmarks, colouring pages, and even participated in colouring challenges. There was a focus on calming strategies and why colouring can be a great strategy to help us "Keep Calm".

MAKERSPACE CLUB

Makerspace Club is a DIY exploration where students gather to create, invent and learn. Makerspace encourages students to explore, design, experiment, and build. They are able to take items apart, put things together, and dream of imaginative creations. The notion of multiple attempts, refining designs, and failure are all inherent with engaging students to take risks.

FRENCH CLUB AT BISON RUN: A JOURNEY INTO LANGUAGE & CULTURE

The French Club in Bison Run is a vibrant space for students in grades 5-8 to explore the French language and culture. In the French Club, we are having fun! We play French board games, speak, and read in French, watch cultural videos, listen to cultural French music, and dance to it, among many other activities.

Our students are not just participants, but leaders in the French Club's activities. They took charge of the Festival du Voyageur assembly and helped run French stations and other activities during the event. Students took the initiative in organizing the French song flash mob during the Bison Run Birthday Party. Presently, students are pouring their creativity into a theatrical performance in French. In the French Club, we celebrate the beauty of French culture and language, create new friendships, and enjoy the journey of learning a new language.

GIZMO CLUB

A fun and engaging opportunity for students to be on the “cutting edge” by learning new digital resources and creating content to teach their peers how to use them. Through technology students learn learning and build skills, including fine motor skills, letter/ number/ shape/ colour recognition, eye-hand co-ordination, reading, writing, planning, problem solving etc.

LEADERSHIP CLUB

Leadership Club has a new look this year. We are celebrating all grade 8 students' uniqueness by creating an environment where ANY student can share their wonderful talents. When the grade 8's are asked for help, we simply ask for volunteers on an event-by-event basis.

We have students volunteering with the Kindergarten students, taking pictures at different events, making cupcakes for the Birthday Bash, helping with the Festival du Voyageur, Leading Assemblies etc.

SKI TRIP CLUB

The Asessippi Trip was a huge success. It left many of the participants beaming with joy days after their return. After completing ski or snowboard lessons, the students were able to progresses to more complicated slopes. It was wonderful to see the joy on the students faces as they socialized with each other in a tech free environment and persevered through new challenges. Students were also able to get a taste of rural Manitoba and were brought to applause by herds of deer and beautiful sunsets. Some students had the opportunity to go for a nature walk and experience the calm of winter. At the hotel, some students chose to swim while others simply enjoyed the company of their peers with games. At curfew, behind each room door there were giggles!

GAUSS PREP CLUB

Gauss Prep is a Grade 7/8 club that runs every Wednesday in Mr. Pfahl’s room. This is an enrichment math opportunity for Grade 7/8 students who want to complete in the National Gauss Math Contest presented by the University of Waterloo on May 15. Students interested in Gauss Prep should have a demonstrated aptitude for problem solving, or a desire to challenge their problem-solving skills.
