What Is Up In 1D!

Teaching Science through inquiry encourages our children to explore, ask questions, and learn about the world through hands-on activities. In our Grade 1 Science Inquiry, we focus less on memorizing facts and more on thinking, observing, and discovering like a young scientist.

In 1D students are learning and exploring the Five Senses in Science. They love to ask questions and explore the big WHY questions. During choice time students love to play with the Mr. Potato head, so they began their inquiry into the Five Senses by connecting their experiences with this favourite toy to new learning. The class then watched videos about the Five Senses to get their minds thinking and to get ready to work collaboratively with peers in small groups.
After activating thinking and sparking curiosity, Ms. Dupuis challenged the students to work in small groups and think about two big questions: What do you know about the Five Senses? and What do you want to know about the Five Senses?

In our inquiry work students learn and develop skills in critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and problem solving. They are thinking like scientists as they ask questions, explore new ideas, make predictions, and sort and classify information. Our grade one students are excited to explore and learn about the Five Senses through an inquiry, hands-on learning approach.
