Celebrating the Olympics and I Love to Read at Bairdmore!

We had a whole-school Olympic opening ceremonies kickoff assembly complete with Canadian flags and flashlight torches for every student! We enjoyed learning about the history of the torch, the various sports, and the shared experience of watching the opening ceremonies together!

Breakout EDU ~ Students enjoyed a challenging Olympic-themed Breakout EDU; solving puzzles, deciphering clues, and unlocking locks to unlock the 'Canadian athletes' medals and get to the opening ceremonies on time!' Staff and students were engaged, immersed in Olympics past and present, and cooperation shined!

Coding with Mousebots ~ Students chose a sport, made a track, chose a country and taped the flag onto the side of their athlete (Mousebot) and coded the course! Groups of students were then bringing their athlete to other groups to try their hand at coding other other sports tracks and even racing against other athletes.

Home Reading Olympics ~ Lionel the blue tastebud from Boston Pizza dropped by to encourage students to make daily reading a habit in their homes. Our Olympic Home Reading Program runs throughout the month of February with great Gold, Silver and Bronze prizes awarded to the winning classrooms.

Students can stop by the Library during the month of February and guess the number of hearts in the giant jar! Happy reading! And Go Canada, go!
